Camping Gravas in Lenzerheide/Lai, invited competition

The project addresses the challenging natural setting within the forest at Gravas by dividing the program into two separate buildings. The elongated main building, situated along Voa Nova, serves as the gateway to the site. Beneath a generously cantilevered canopy, it houses the reception area, staff rooms, guest lounge, washrooms, and utility spaces for dishwashing and laundry. The smaller building is positioned perpendicular to Voa Gravas and contains a garage with workshop. This arrangement creates a courtyard-like outdoor space that is shielded from traffic and seamlessly transitions into the forest to the north. The project establishes a new focal point for the site, ensuring that all functions are easily accessible for visitors. The building volumes are kept simple to harmonize with the location, allowing the forest to remain the dominant presence. Nevertheless, carefully designed details introduce architectural variety and quality. The horizontally structured wooden façade is rhythmically articulated by the interior layout, while the stepped concrete base follows the natural terrain. Along the courtyard-facing façade, protected by the canopy, glazed sections mark the various entrances, while a circular window on the gable façade prominently highlights the reception area.

Das Projekt reagiert auf die landschaftlich anspruchsvolle Lage im Waldstück bei Gravas, indem es das Raumprogramm auf zwei Gebäude aufteilt. Das längliche Hauptgebäude entlang der Voa Nova definiert den Auftakt zum Areal und beherbergt unter einem grosszügig ausladenden Vordach den Empfang mit Personalräumen, die Aufenthaltsräume für Gäste, den Wasch- und Toilettenbereich, sowie Abwasch- und Wäscheraum. Das zweite, kleinere Gebäude steht rechtwinklig zur Voa Gravas und beinhaltet die Garage mit Werkstatt. Durch diese Anordnung entsteht ein hofartiger Aussenraum, welcher vom Verkehr abgeschirmt ist und gegen Norden in den Wald übergeht. So erhält die Anlage ein neues Zentrum, und alle Funktionen sind für die Gäste einfach auffindbar. Die Volumina werden bewusst einfach gehalten, um dem Ort zu entsprechen, wo weiterhin der Wald die Hauptpräsenz einnimmt. Durch sorgfältig konstruierte Details entstehen dennoch eine gestalterische Vielfalt und Qualität. Die horizontal strukturierte Holzfassade wird durch die innere Raumaufteilung rhythmisiert, und der abgetreppte Betonsockel passt sich dem natürlichen Geländeverlauf an. Auf der unter dem Vordach geschützte Fassade zum Platz hin markieren verglaste Bereiche die verschiedenen Zugänge, währenddem ein kreisförmiges Fenster an der Giebelfassade prominent auf den Empfang verweist.
