Extension and renovation of a primary school in Matran, open competition

The project provides a clear response to the competition’s requirements, which call for the construction of a new extension for the Matran school district to replace the existing one. The building’s placement respects the current topography and integrates harmoniously with the existing compositional axes. By adopting a simple and carefully considered geometry, the project builds upon the foundation provided by the roof slab of an existing civil protection shelter. The extension adopts three different orientations in plan, reducing its volumetric impact on the site while better accommodating the differences in elevation. The interplay of solid and void spaces creates breathing areas and provides clear orientation toward the main access to the school district, located to the north. The internal layout is organically structured around a spacious staircase that connects the two levels of the new building. From this central space, access to the main entrance is provided to the north, while the entrance for the kindergarten is located to the east. To the west, a direct two-level connection links the new building to the existing school.

Le projet apporte une réponse claire aux enjeux du concours, qui prévoit la construction d’une nouvelle extension pour le cercle scolaire de Matran, en remplacement de l’extension existante. L’implantation du bâtiment respecte la topographie actuelle et s’intègre harmonieusement aux axes de composition existants. Grâce au choix d’une géométrie simple et réfléchie, le projet s’appuie sur le socle formé par l’abri PC existant, tout en l’exploitant pleinement. L’extension adopte trois orientations différentes en plan, réduisant ainsi son impact volumétrique sur le site et s’adaptant aux différences d’altimétrie. Le jeu de pleins et de vides permet de créer des espaces de respiration et d’offrir une orientation claire vers l’accès principal du cercle scolaire, situé au nord. L’organisation intérieure s’articule de manière organique autour d’un escalier spacieux reliant les deux niveaux du nouveau bâtiment. Depuis cet espace central, on accède à l’entrée principale au nord, à l’entrée dédiée à l’école enfantine à l’est, tandis qu’à l’ouest, une connexion directe sur deux niveaux relie le nouveau bâtiment à l’école existante.
